Accessibility statement for MyRecipal
MyRecipal is committed to making its website usable by as many people as possible, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA and keep improving the experience for everyone.
Conformance status
The MyRecipal website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means that some parts of the content do not yet fully conform to the standard.
This statement covers the public website (recipes, countries, search, reviews, contact, your Food Passport and Food Map) and the site’s administration pages. It does not cover the MyRecipal mobile apps.
What we have done
- A “Skip to main content” link, page landmarks, one main heading per page and a unique title on every page.
- All features work with a keyboard, with a clearly visible focus outline; dialogs keep focus inside, close with Escape and return focus.
- Text and controls meet colour-contrast requirements, and information is never shown by colour alone.
- Every form field has a visible label; errors are listed at the top of the form, linked to each field and explain how to fix them.
- You are warned before your session times out and can extend it as many times as you need.
- The home-page slideshow can be paused, and animation is reduced when your device asks for reduced motion.
- Pages reflow to a single column at 320 pixels wide and support browser zoom up to 400%.
- More than one way to find pages: the main menu, recipe search and a site map.
Known limitations
We know about the following issues. Where there is a workaround we describe it; we review this list with every release.
- Food Travel Map: the interactive world map is provided by a third-party charting library, and individual countries on it cannot be reached with the keyboard or read by a screen reader. The map has a text summary, zoom and pan buttons, and the same information is listed under “Your Culinary Journey” directly below it.
- Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy: these pages are written in a content editor, so their headings and link text may not always follow best practice. Contact us if any part is unclear and we will explain it.
- Recipe content from an external recipe database: some recipe names, photos and instructions come from a third-party source. Photos are described only by the recipe name, and linked cooking videos open on YouTube, where captions depend on the video’s publisher.
- Shareable images: the downloadable recipe card and Food Visa images are pictures of text. Everything on them is also shown as text on the page.
- Food Visa card decoration: some decorative stamp lettering on visa cards is very small. The same details (recipe, country and date) are shown in larger text on the card.
- Administration editor: the rich-text editor used by administrators to edit the legal pages is a third-party component with limited screen-reader support.
- Not yet tested with assistive technology: the site has not yet been tested with screen readers (such as NVDA or VoiceOver) or by people with disabilities, and it has not been independently audited.

Technical information
MyRecipal relies on HTML, CSS, JavaScript and WAI-ARIA to work with the combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer. It is designed for current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
Assessment approach
MyRecipal assessed the accessibility of this website by self-evaluation on : a review of every page template, dialog and form against each WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA success criterion, supported by automated checks of the page templates. Browser zoom, reflow, text spacing and screen-reader testing still need to be completed manually, as noted under Known limitations.
